501(c)(3) Tax Exemption

The Experimental Aircraft Association, CSRA Chapter 172, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation registered March 8, 1966, as a Domestic non-profit corporation in the State of Georgia  No. A601409. Its EIN is  58-2595879 (this is needed for your tax preparer). It complies with the Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3) without need for an authorizing certificate in that it normally does not have gross annual receipts totalling more than $5,000 and it is "operated exclusively for ... scientific ... or educational purposes." "No part of the net earnings ... inures to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual, no substantial part of the activities of which is carrying on propaganda" and which "does not participate in, or intervene in ... any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office." Form 1023 is not required to be filed because the receipts for any year total no more than $5,000 and in any three year period total no more than $15,000. In addition, Article III of the corporation Constitution indicates the scientific and educational purposes of the Association. However, in accordance with new IRS regulations, we have filed the annual ePostcard with IRS form 990-N now required by the IRS for all tax exempt organizations no matter what the receipts are.

The U.S. Internal Revenue Service, in Publication 557, declares that organizations that fit the above tests "are exempt automatically."
