Millen Airport Millen, GA |
|
The Fly-in is on November 11, 2006. The main meal is at 1:00 PM. This year we are going to again have a Low Country Boil main meal. An hour or two before that we will treat you to some tasty Gumbo. You may come the day before and camp -- with a tent, motor home, camper, etc. -- or go to one of the motels which are listed below under the heading "Millen Airport and Fly-in lodging information."
The airport is owned by the City of Millen. It is very ultralight friendly. Come in over the western (Highway 25) side of the airport -- the back and south sides are a wildlife refuge and the gov'ment doesn't want you flying over that! So the PATTERN FOR RUNWAY 17 IS RIGHT-HAND; THE PATTERN FOR RUNWAY 35 IS LEFT-HAND. The CTAF is 122.9 mhz. There are restrooms on the field and you may camp "primitively" or just land, tie down, and go to a motel.
Ultralight pilots, if it is at all possible, please land on the
grass strip to avoid problems with the larger, conventional aircraft. Look
for the white buckets marking the grass strip. Of course, if you prefer the
asphalt runway, please use it.
| So what is a "Low Country Boil" ? Well, it's a Southern Specialty dish comprised of shrimp, white potatoes and corn on the cob all boiled with onions, often with specialty seasonings. Such Southern cuisine is sometimes cooked in sheets of aluminum foil over hot charcoal. |
