Saturday, December 15: Pancake Breakfast  EAA Chapter 1350 At the LaGrange-Callaway Airport (LGC), LaGrange, Georgia.  CTAF 122.975.
If you feel like getting out on a Saturday morning with nice weather for flying, we have a pancake breakfast that's going to be great. Going to a pancake breakfast somewhere would also be a good break from the hectic pace of the Christmas season. It's only $5.00 for pancakes, eggs, sausage, orange juice, coffee, and even an after-breakfast mint. The November breakfast had a new addition, Sunnyland hot links sausage, which our president put on the menu. And boy, were they good. He's promised to bring them this coming Saturday as well. The breakfast starts at 8:00 AM and lasts until 10:30 AM. It's always been an enjoyable time for those who have come out so if members of any other chapters feel like flying somewhere on what is supposed to be a beautiful day, LaGrange would be a great place to go. Our breakfast is only $5.00 for all the pancakes you can eat, with sausage, eggs, orange juice, and coffee served as well. If you manage to make it to LaGrange, we promise to treat you well. WWII FIGHTERS ROAR INTO ATLANTA
PDK first stop on 2008 Great Atlanta Warbird Tour

PEACHTREE CITY, GA (July 27, 2008) – Armchair aviators and World War II history buffs will get a chance to fly back in time when three WWII-era aircraft touchdown at Peachtree-Dekalb (PDK) Airport Saturday, August 16.  The airplanes, maintained and flown by the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Dixie Wing, will provide enthusiasts with a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to recreate and preserve history by purchasing a ride in one the vintage planes. The CAF Dixie Wing aircraft will be based at Atlantic Aviation from 9:00am-5:00pm.

The United States produced over 300,000 aircraft during the Second World War.  Today, few exist except in museums or in the hands of private collectors.  Some examples can be seen at air shows, but public flights outside of large aviation events are uncommon.  The fly-in is the first stop on the CAF Dixie Wing 2008 Great Atlanta Warbird Tour of metro-area municipal airports.

Other stops include Kennesaw, Hampton and Peachtree City, the organization’s home base.

“We believe the best way to preserve the legacy of The Greatest Generation is to allow the public to see and hear these machines in flight or experience a ride in an aircraft that changed the course of history” said Chris Madrid, CAF Dixie Wing Public Information Officer.

Founded in 1987, the CAF Dixie Wing is the Georgia chapter of the 50 year-old Commemorative Air Force, a 501c3 dedicated to restoring and flying WWII aircraft as tribute to America’s veterans, particularly the Greatest Generation, the men and women who won the Second World War.

The daily loss of 1,200 WWII veterans has created a sense of urgency for the all-volunteer organization.

Leading the tour is a North American P-51 Mustang, arguably the best all-around fighter of the Second World War.  Accompanying the Mustang will be a North American LT-6 Mosquito and Fairchild PT-26 Cornell primary trainer.  The Mosquito, restored to represent an aircraft flown during the Korean War, received a “Judge’s Choice” award at Sun ‘N Fun in April 2008.

Members donate their time to maintain each aircraft, which all sport WWII or Korean War paint schemes.  Repairs can cost up to $125,000 if an engine must be replaced.  Air show appearances, fund-raisers and donations support ongoing operations of the wing.

Prices for rides vary, but start at $95 in the PT-26.  The money benefits the CAF Dixie Wing and is tax-deductible.

"We believe we are stewards of American history," said Madrid, who has been a member of the group for eight years. "We hope our Summer Rides Tour will keep ‘em flying for future generations”.

Rides can be purchased in advance by calling the CAF Dixie Wing at 678-364-1110.  For more information about The Great Atlanta Warbird Tour or the CAF Dixie Wing visit www.dixiewing.org.

The Commemorative Air Force is a non-profit organization dedicated to flying and restoring World War II aircraft.  Based in Midland, Texas, the organization has over 9,500 members and operates a fleet of over 150 World War II aircraft.  www.commemorativeairforce.org

March 2009
Saturday, March 7: EAA 172 Fly-Out  We were fortunate to have Tom  Reilly talk about his aviation interests and his B-25 at the Club meeting on February 14th. Tom won the Best Warbird award at last year's Boshear's Skyfest. He invited us to a breakfast at the Douglas, Georgia, airport (DQH) starting at 9:00 AM on March 7th. The cost is only $5.00 and you will have the opportunity to see a Stearman, two SNJs (T-6), a P-40 just about ready to fly for the first time since WWII, and a C-47.  They also have another B-17 project and the very rare XP-82 Twin Mustang project to see.  The B-25 won't be there since it is in Titusville, FL, at the Tico Warbird Museum for the upcoming Tico Warbird Air Show next week. You can see the breakfast information by clicking on  Douglas Breakfast (note this is a humongous file which would take about 1/2 hour for dial-up users)  For further information call the Pea Patch at (706) 592-7244, or contact Charlie Connell, (803) 279-7250 or click http://www.airnav.com/airport/DQH  for airport info. Saturday, March 21: Pancake Breakfast  EAA Chapter 1350
At the
LaGrange-Callaway Airport (LGC), LaGrange, Georgia.  CTAF 122.975.
The weather should be nice and cool that Saturday morning, just right for flying. If you feel like getting out on a spring morning, this is going to be a good morning to fly. The Columbus airshow, "Thunder in the Valley" is that same day, so LaGrange would be a good stop-over if you're headed for the airshow and wanted to grab some breakfast on the way. As usual, it lasts from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM and is only $5.00 for pancakes, farm-grown eggs, sausage, orange juice, and coffee.

We always try to treat our guests like VIPs so it should be a good trip if you can make it to LGC.
The LaGrange airport will be undergoing some renovations for several months, but our EAA chapter will be plugging along and having the breakfast as usual. We may be having some of the things in a little different place, but we will still have our usual good breakfast for those who stop by. For those who have graced our breakfast before, we appreciate you flying in and hope you will pay us a visit again.

If you're looking for a reason to get out and fly next Saturday morning and somewhere to fly to, we'll have a breakfast waiting for you at LGC in LaGrange. Hope you can make it.

The Kansas City Dawn Patrol (with their Nieuports) will be there! Basically an "Oshkosh" for WWI planes and pilots. If you're thinking of building and flying
a WWI replica, this is the PLACE to be!! Friday is the "arrival, assemble, insult, photo, learn" day. Saturday is the "public attends" day. There will be flying all day long.

Tentative Things to See:

The Gardner exit is the 175th street exit off I-35. Take the exit, go west through town. After passing through the main part of town you'll come to a fork in the road. Stay RIGHT and you'll come to the airport on your left after about a mile.  More information can be found at: http://www.kcdawnpatrol.org/Schedule.htm
